My 3-Step Secret: I Want to Pivot in Life—Where Do I Start?


Before we dive in, let me ask you one thing: Are you truly ready for change?

If you’re not, stop reading. Seriously, don’t waste your time here. Change isn’t for everyone. The life you crave will demand something big—it will cost you your old life. If you love everything about your current life, then keep living it. But if you feel that pull, that persistent whisper that says,

“There’s more for me out there”

Change Is A Journey of Many Pivots

If change has been on your mind lately, you’re not alone. I’ve been there—on that rollercoaster of life. I’ve made countless pivots. Some were incredible; others were painful, frustrating, or just plain exhausting.

But here’s the thing: no matter how those changes turned out, they all had one thing in common—they started from a single decision. And here’s the coolest part: if the change you make doesn’t get you where you want to go, you can pivot again, and again, and again.

Every major pivot I’ve made has started with these three steps, and I’m sharing them here to guide you. Let’s dive in.


Step 1: Decide

What kind of change are you ready to make?
Your first step is to choose where you want to focus your energy. I break it down into three areas:

  1. Personal Change – Your habits, lifestyle, or relationships.

  2. Professional Change – Your career, skills, or purpose.

  3. Mental Change – Your mindset, self-talk, or emotional resilience.

Pick one. Just one.


Think of it like picking an outfit for a big event. You don’t wear every piece of clothing in your closet at once. Instead, you select what fits the moment and the message you want to send.

Say it out loud:


"Where do I want to make permanent change in my life?"

Feel that? That’s confidence. That’s the feeling of taking charge of your life again.

But here’s a word of caution—don’t try to change everything all at once.
I’ve learned this lesson the hard way. When you tackle too much at once, it’s overwhelming. You’ll spin your wheels, and instead of moving forward, you’ll burn out. Focus on one area and give it your full attention.


Step 2: Accept & Let Go

This is the hardest step, but it’s also the most transformative.

You have to accept exactly who and where you are right now. It’s tempting to ignore the “bad” parts of ourselves, but avoiding them doesn’t make them disappear. Growth begins when you confront your reality.

Here are three life-changing questions to help ground you:

  • Who am I right now?

  • Who was I in the past?

  • Who do I want to become?

Write these down. Take your time answering them. Be honest, even if the answers sting a little.

And here’s another truth bomb:

Your new life will cost you your old life.”

Let that sink in. The version of you that stays comfortable, plays small, and makes excuses? That version has to go.


Stop telling yourself things like:

  • “It’s too late for me.”

  • “I’ll never be satisfied.”

  • “I don’t know where to begin.”

Those thoughts aren’t facts—they’re just stories you’ve been telling yourself. And they’ve been holding you back for far too long.

Push vs. Pull Exercise

Ask yourself these two questions:

  • What will push me toward the new version of myself?

  • What will pull me back into my old habits and ways of thinking?

Write your answers down. This clarity will help you let go of what’s been keeping you stuck.


Step 3: Create the Lane

Now it’s time to move forward.

You’ve decided where to focus. You’ve accepted where you are and let go of what’s been holding you back. Now, let’s build the road that will take you to your future self.

1. Set Micro Goals

Think about what you want. Now, break it down into bite-sized, actionable steps. These small wins will build momentum and make the process feel less overwhelming.

For example:

  • Want to improve your mental health? Start with 5-10 minutes of writing down your intentions for today, this week, or this month. Prioritize YOU.

  • Ready for a career pivot? Update your resume and research one new field every week.

Small, consistent actions lead to big results.

2. Seek Guidance

Don’t try to go it alone. Find mentors, role models, or communities that align with your vision. Listen to podcasts, read books, and connect with people who’ve walked the path you’re on.

Remember, asking for help isn’t a weakness—it’s a strength.

3. Implement with Intention

This is where the rubber meets the road. Start small. Celebrate every little win. Stay curious about yourself and your journey.

Here’s the truth: pivoting isn’t a one-time thing. It’s a process. You’ll troubleshoot, reevaluate, and adjust along the way. And that’s okay. Growth isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being persistent.
