6 Simple But Effective Life Lessons from My Dad You Need to Know
In 2022, I had a two-hour kitchen table conversation with my dad and asked him what helped him build a new life in the United States after migrating from Peru without financial means, not knowing the language, starting from scratch, and leaving everything and everyone behind in Peru. This blog entails portions of our conversation on the principles he learned through trial and error and the mindset he developed, knowing that sacrifice leads to legacy. Here are his six fundamental principles for living a life that is both simple and impactful, and how you can leverage Mogressive’s life coaching to make these principles your reality.
The best piece of advice I’ve gathered over my 37 years from my father is this,
“Do what you are passionate about, and are you going to do it because you want to matter, or because it matters..?”
1. Self-Awareness: “Learn This as Early as Possible”
Dad's Wisdom: "I had to learn everything about myself. I had to figure out everything. I had to go back to my childhood up to now. Why am I the person that I am?"
Understanding oneself is the cornerstone of a fulfilling life. My dad always emphasized the importance of self-awareness, urging me to take the time to reflect on my thoughts, feelings, and actions. By recognizing our strengths, weaknesses, and true desires, we can navigate life with a clearer sense of purpose and direction. Self-awareness enables us to make informed decisions and align our actions with our core values. I didn’t truly learn this type of self awareness until I was 30 years old. Believe it or not…

2. Build a Game Plan: “What Do You Really Want to Do with Your Life?”
Dad's Wisdom: "Find your niche, really hone it down to what it is you actually really want to do with your life and yes, be super detailed."
Having a game plan is crucial for achieving long-term goals. My dad encouraged me to ask myself what I truly want out of life and to create a detailed plan to achieve those goals. You might have heard of SMART goals before, but the real question is, How do you make simple-effective moves that have long term ripple effects?. A well-thought-out game plan serves as a roadmap, guiding us through life's challenges and helping us stay focused on our aspirations.

3. Apply Your Knowledge: Integrate Life Lessons into Your Game Plan
Dad's Wisdom: "You need to apply your knowledge and be consistent with it day in, day out. Consistency is key."
Knowledge is only powerful when it is applied. My dad's advice was to take everything I have learned about life—whether through personal experiences, education, or observing/listening to others—and integrate it into my game plan. This means using our insights and skills to make better decisions, solve problems, and continuously improve. By applying our knowledge, we turn theoretical understanding into practical wisdom.
Quote: "Knowledge is of no value unless you put it into practice." - Anton Chekhov
Statistic: Applying knowledge can increase your productivity by up to 30%.
Mogressive Insight: Our coaching focuses on integrating your life experiences into your game plan, providing practical tools and techniques.
4. Believe in Life: Trust the Process and Trust in Yourself
Dad's Wisdom: "Believe in life. That means to believe in having a loving life partner, to have a child, to have a family, to follow your passions and dreams, those are true challenges in life. Leaving a legacy of who you are and what you stood for. Again, Consistency."
Trusting the process is essential for maintaining motivation and resilience. My dad taught me to have faith in life's journey, even when faced with uncertainty and setbacks. Believing in oneself and the process fosters a positive mindset, enabling us to persevere through difficulties. This trust is not about blind optimism but about having confidence in our abilities and the natural progression of our efforts.

Statistic: Positive thinking can boost your immune system and increase lifespan by up to 10 years.
Mogressive Insight: Our programs build resilience and foster a positive mindset, teaching you to trust the process and stay motivated.
5. Be the Example: “Live with Integrity and Inspire Others”
Dad's Wisdom: "You need to be the example of your future life by living it right now. Be the example. Live out your ideas like your future depends on it."
Leading by example is one of the most powerful ways to influence others. My dad always lived his life in a way that others could admire and emulate. He believed in being a role model through actions rather than titles. By embodying personal integrity, values, and ethics, we inspire others to strive for the same. Living authentically and consistently with our principles makes us a beacon of positive influence-naturally.

Statistic: Role models can improve performance by up to 20%.
Mogressive Insight: We emphasize integrity and personal values in our coaching, teaching you to live in a way that inspires others.
6. Remain Consistent and Protect It: Uphold Your Values and Beliefs
Consistency is key to maintaining a simple and effective life. My dad's final piece of advice is to protect our values, morals, ethics, and belief systems. This involves being vigilant about what we allow into our lives and staying true to our principles despite external pressures. By remaining consistent, we create a stable foundation upon which we can build a fulfilling life. Additionally, loving and nurturing everything that aligns with our core beliefs reinforces our commitment to living authentically.
