Harnessing Your Past Experiences to Fuel Growth & Success as an Adult
Unlocking Your Past for Success - Self-Reflection and Personal Growth
It doesn’t matter…
It doesn’t matter what type of life experiences you’ve slipped, dipped, or jumped into as a kid.
Your past life experiences harness a formula that can guide, support, or motivate you into becoming a better leader at work, a better father at home, or a better version of yourself overall. Reflecting on your childhood opens up wounds we’ve been pushing down for yearrrrs, trust me, I’ve been there and its scary at first because we don’t know how to trust ourselves yet with these childhood & adolescence experiences. But one thing is for sure; those experiences have played a major role in our current and everyday lives within our daily decisions and our beliefs about this world.
Human growth happens in two main stages. From ages 2 to 12, kids learn important things like being curious, confident, handling tough times, and getting good at different tasks. This is when they're really exploring and learning about the world.
Then, from ages 12 to 18, they start to understand more about why they are the way they are. During these teen years, they figure out who they are, get better at dealing with hard situations, and think more about what they're good at and what they want to do in life. Both these stages are key in helping someone grow up to be a well-rounded person.
So just to clarify–In childhood, we develop curiosity, confidence, resilience, and performance skills. These are the years when we're most open to exploring the world and learning new things.
As teenagers, we start to understand why we have these traits, shaping our identity and honing our ability to handle complex challenges and assess our strengths and weaknesses.
As adults, looking back at these stages helps us recognize and address areas where we might not have fully developed. For instance, if we struggled with confidence as a child, reflecting on those experiences can help us understand why and work on building confidence now. Similarly, if our curiosity wasn’t developed in adolescence, we might rediscover it in adulthood, opening up new avenues for learning and growth.
Reflecting on our past also helps us identify 'forgotten' attributes or skills we didn't fully explore or develop. By understanding our past selves, we can nurture these aspects in our present life, leading to a more fulfilling and well-rounded adulthood. This process of reflection and growth is not just about fixing mistakes; it's about recognizing the continuous journey of self-improvement and personal development that extends well into our adult lives.
