The American Dream is Dead–Or at Least, It’s Not What It Used to Be
Young People Aren’t Invested in the “American Dream”
Because That Dream Doesn’t Exist
Like It Did for Our Parents
For decades, the American Dream was simple:
✅ Work hard.
✅ Buy a house.
✅ Build a family.
✅ Retire comfortably.
Our parents and grandparents lived in an era where this was actually possible. One job could support an entire household. College was affordable. Buying a home wasn’t out of reach. Retirement was a real plan, not a distant fantasy.
But that dream no longer exists for young people today.
🚨 Wages are stagnant.
🚨 Housing is unaffordable.
🚨 College degrees don’t guarantee success.
🚨 Inflation is outpacing income growth.
So why would young people “invest” in a system that’s already failing them?
Let’s break it down.
How the American Dream
Became a Rigged System
Young people today aren’t lazy, entitled, or uninterested, they’re just not buying into a broken system.
Here’s why:
1. Homeownership is No Longer Attainable
In the 1970s, the average home cost about 2.5x the median salary.
Today, it’s 7-10x the median salary in many major cities.
Wages haven’t kept up with inflation, making it nearly impossible to buy a home without massive debt.
🔹 For past generations, homeownership was a stepping stone to wealth.
🔹 For today’s generation, it’s a financial trap.
2. College is Expensive & Doesn’t Guarantee Success
A college degree used to mean job security and financial stability.
Now, students graduate with crippling debt and no clear job prospects.
Trade jobs and alternative career paths are often more lucrative than a degree.
🔹 Why invest in a system that charges $100K+ for a degree but can’t promise a decent-paying job?
3. Corporate Loyalty is a Joke
In the past, employees could stay with a company for life, retire with a pension, and feel secure.
Today, corporations treat workers as replaceable assets—with no real loyalty or benefits.
🔹 Why commit to a company that won’t commit to you?
4. The Economy is Stacked Against Young People
Inflation is wiping out savings.
Rent is skyrocketing, leaving people stuck in financial survival mode.
Wealth is being consolidated by the ultra-rich, making upward mobility harder.
🔹 For young people, the American Dream feels less like a goal and more like a rigged game.
What Young People
Are Choosing Instead
Instead of chasing a dream that doesn’t exist anymore, younger generations are creating their own paths.
1. Financial Independence Over Traditional Careers
Side hustles, freelancing, and investing are replacing the "9-to-5 until retirement" mindset.
People are focusing on owning assets (stocks, crypto, businesses) instead of chasing job titles.
2. Living for Experience Over Stability
Minimalism, van life, digital nomadism, and remote work are replacing the desire for suburban stability.
Why own a house when you can live anywhere and be free?
3. Questioning Authority & Old Systems
Young people don’t trust government, corporations, or institutions the way past generations did.
They’re choosing self-education, community building, and alternative lifestyles over what’s “expected.”
💡 The old system isn’t working, so they’re building a new one.
My Story: When I Realized
The American Dream Was a Lie
I grew up believing hard work would pay off.
I served in the military. I traveled the country. I saw the world from different angles and I’m super grateful for those life experiences.
And then, I watched the system fail people over and over again.
💡 Veterans coming home struggling to find jobs and a “new mission” in life.
💡 People working 60+ hours a week just to survive. It truly breaks my heart.
💡 The rich getting richer while the middle class disappeared.
I had to rethink everything.
I asked myself:
🚨 What’s actually worth investing my time and energy into?
🚨 How do I build something for myself, not just fit into a system that doesn’t care about me?
That’s when I started Mogressive Strategy Coaching.
Because I realized the only real “American Dream” is the one you build for yourself.
What’s Going to Be YOUR American Dream?
If you’re reading this, you’re probably questioning the system too.
Maybe you:
Feel stuck in a job that isn’t leading anywhere.
Don’t see a clear path to financial security.
Want freedom, not just stability.
💡 The answer? Build your OWN dream, not the one sold to you.
🚨 There’s no better time than right now.
Here’s How to Start
Creating Your Own Path
1. Learn Financial Independence
Stop chasing paychecks and start learning how to own assets.
Investing, side hustles, and building skills that pay will change your life.
2. Train Your Mind to Think for Itself
If you’re still believing what mainstream media tells you, you’re already losing.
Learn to see patterns, analyze systems, and question narratives.
3. Get Emotionally Stronger
If you react emotionally to everything, you’re an easy target for manipulation.
Master your emotional intelligence and resilience.
4. Stop Complaining, Start Building
The old world is collapsing unfortunately, but that’s an opportunity. There’s always opportunity when chaos presents itself.
Instead of waiting for things to go back to "normal," create your own system that works for you.
💡 And oh yeah, I can help with that.
