I Want to Pivot in Life, What is Step One!?

Life is a series of twists and turns, and often, we reach a juncture where change becomes inevitable.

Whether you're seeking a career switch, personal growth, or a fresh perspective, knowing where to start is crucial. Dive into our guide on taking the very first step towards pivoting in life.

Change is a constant, and at times, life pushes us to the point where we yearn, pray, or hope for a significant pivot. This pivot can be created, harnest, or manifested in various forms: a career switch, personal growth, or even adopting a new mindset. If you're standing at this crossroad, pondering, "What is step one?", you're not alone. Here's your guide to initiating that life-altering pivot–starting right now.

Acceptance: The Root of All Change

Before diving into any specific strategies or how to steps, the foundational step one in any life pivot is acceptance. It's a universal step that we all have taken or will take repeatedly in our lifetime. Remember change is constant, and accepting this is part of step one.

Understanding Acceptance

Recognizing the Need: Every pivot starts with an itch, a nagging feeling that something's “is just not right”. It might be boredom, discomfort, or simply dissatisfaction in life. The primary step is recognizing and accepting that you're craving change.

Letting Go of Judgement: Society, friends, family, work, or even self-inflicted pressures can make us judge our own desires harshly. "Why can't I be satisfied?" "Is it too late for me?" These questions can weigh you down. Acceptance means letting go of such judgment and understanding that it's human to seek growth and change. There ya go, now you’re starting to understand how your “wired” and how to “rewire” your life.

Embracing the Present: While it's crucial to aspire for a brighter future, it's equally important to accept the present. Understand where you stand currently, as it forms the baseline from which you'll pivot. Three of the most challenging questions in life are: Who were you? Who are you? And Who do you want to become?

Why Acceptance Matters

Creates Clarity: Once you accept your feelings and desires without judgment, it paves the way for clear thinking. You can now objectively assess what needs changing and why. You just found the light switch in a dark room. Clarity is like a filter, adjusting your mindset from imagination to reality. Now your grounded and not assuming what that dark room might look like. Maybe it wasn’t that scary, dark, or dirty but, your imagination got the better of you and held you back from taking the first step.

Boosts Confidence: Accepting that you want or need a change boosts self-confidence. It removes unnecessary pressures and makes you believe in your capabilities. Confidence is a muscle.

Serves as a Foundation: Think of acceptance as the groundwork. With acceptance, you're mentally and emotionally prepared, making the necessary steps in your pivot more effective.

Taking The Next Steps

After embracing acceptance:

Self-Reflection: Understand deeply what you want from this pivot. Is it a career change? Personal growth? a new hobby? Intimacy?

Set Micro Goals: Once you know what you want, set a goal (This is when to use your imagination), now set actionable, realistic goals. Break them into smaller tasks to make the pivot less stressful and more attainable in your eyes.

Seek Guidance: Talk to people who've been where you are. Their insights can be invaluable. Companies like Mogressive Coaching specialize in guiding individuals through pivotal life moments.

Implement: Start small. Take one step at a time. Each small victory will propel you forward.

You can’t just tell yourself that “you want change” you have to feel it, see it, hear it, and accept who and where you are in life right now. Troubleshooting your life will always start and end with you.

Pivoting in life isn't a sign of inconsistency but a testament to one's adaptability and desire for growth. Acceptance is the first and perhaps most critical step in this journey. With acceptance comes clarity, confidence, and a foundation upon which you can build your new path. I call it your “Foundation Model” once you build your foundational model, you can use this same formula and apply it towards all aspects of your life.
